Video: Texas Police Officer Survives Crash by Out-of-Control Pickup Truck
- A Farmers Branch police officer escaped with only minor injuries after an unlicensed 16-year-old driver lost control of his pickup truck and crashed into the officer's cruiser during a traffic stop.
A Florida Highway Patrol trooper and a deputy escaped serious injury while investigating a crash early Sunday when they jumped out of the way of an SUV that then slammed into multiple vehicles before coming to a stop in the interstate.
The near-miss happened at around 3 a.m. when the trooper and a Volusia County sheriff's deputy responded to a call along Interstate 95 concerning a vehicle crashing into a deer, the sheriff's office stated in a social media post that included video footage from the incident. Additional footage showing just how close the SUV was to hitting the officers was released Wednesday.
The officers were out of their cruisers and working the scene of the earlier deer crash when an SUV ran off the roadway and nearly struck the duo. After missing the officers, the SUV barreled into the deputy's cruiser and then struck the vehicle initially involved in the deer crash.
Finally, the SUV spun back onto the interstate and came to a rest there.
No injuries were reported from the incident. It's not clear what caused the SUV to leave the interstate and nearly collide with the officers, and no details were released about whether any charges were filed against the SUV's driver.
"PLEASE stay alert for emergency lights and move over for first responders, service vehicles and disabled vehicles on the side of the road," the sheriff's office stated in its social media post. "This was a split second away from tragedy."
