JAMAR Technologies has recently announced a new feature for its popular Radar Recorder – the ability to wirelessly connect to the device using Bluetooth. This new feature lets officers interact with the device without ever having to leave their vehicle.
The JAMAR Radar Recorder is a popular way for Police Departments to address one of the most common issues in law enforcement - complaints about speeding traffic. Citizens will often contact police to complain about traffic speeds on the road where they live, but a citizen’s perception of traffic speeds does not always match up with what is really happening.
There are several ways to address this situation, such as placing an officer at the location, gathering speed data. Unfortunately, with today's tight budgets and limited resources, it can be difficult to justify the time involved for this.
With the Radar Recorder, an officer can install the device on the side of the road (usually strapped to a utility pole or sign) and allow the device to collect speed data for an extended period of time. This data can then be downloaded and analyzed to determine if stepped up enforcement is, or is not, required at the location.
Previously, when interacting with the device the officer had to stand next to it, open the case and plug in a cable. Now, with the new Bluetooth option, that can all be done wirelessly. This allows the officer to do their work from the comfort and safety of their vehicle rather than having to stand by the side of the road.
Another benefit of this new feature is that it allows for better use of the Radar Recorder’s LiveView function. The LiveView function lets officers see speed data in real time and now that can be done covertly from around the corner or down the road using the wireless connection. This allows for a clearer picture of speeds since drivers aren’t influenced by seeing an officer at the site.
All new units of the Radar Recorder sold by JAMAR now come equipped with this wireless Bluetooth feature standard, which has a range of up to 300 feet. Customers with older non-Bluetooth units can have them retrofitted with this feature by sending their equipment in to JAMAR. (There is a $495 charge for this service.)
