Georgia Police Chief Struck and Killed During High-Speed Pursuit

A Georgia police chief and another man were killed in a crash during a high-speed pursuit Saturday night.

Ludowici Police Chief Frank McClelland Jr. left his car to stop traffic during the pursuit when he was struck by 23-year-old Daniel Hill, according to WSAV-TV.

Officials said that the suspect continued driving before he lost control of his vehicle and hit and killed 61-year-old motorcyclist Marvin Pope.

A Liberty County deputy initally attempted to stop Hill's car at around 7 p.m. Leroy Coffer Highway. Hill refused to stop and led police on a high-speed chase that reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. Hinesville Police officers attempted to stop traffic to allow the chase to pass and the pursuit continued through Liberty County and into Long County before the crash occured.

Hill was arrested at the scene and charged with two counts of murder and vehicular homicide, and DUI.
