ANNAPOLIS -- A driver who allegedly fled a traffic stop and rammed his car into a marked and occupied Maryland State Police SUV is in custody, police said Saturday, and the officer involved in doing fine.
Elena Russo, spokeswoman for the Maryland State Police, said around 12:52 p.m. Saturday a trooper attempted to stop a white Toyota Camry for speeding along Ritchie Highway in the area of Route 50, when the car sped away from him.
Russo said the vehicle was found at a nearby dead end road, and when spotted accelerated and rammed a trooper’s marked Ford Explorer. The collision disabled the Explorer, and the Camry was able to flee, but the impact had knocked the license plate loose from its bumper.
Police used the tag to find the driver at an address in Severna Park, Russo said, and he is now in custody, as is a passenger. The trooper who was inside of the Ford Explorer when it was struck is fine, Russo said.
