A police sergeant in Hutto, Texas was killed Wednesday morning after he was run over with a patrol car by a suspect.
Sgt. Christopher Kelley was attempting to pull over Colby Ray Williamson during a traffic stop on Herrera Trail around 10 a.m. when the two men became engaged in a struggle, according to KXAN-TV.
Officials said that Williamson was able to jump into a police cruiser and struck Kelley before leaving the scene.
Kelley was transported to Seton Medical Center Williamson where he was pronounced dead.
"He was very well liked, a top-notch guy. We're going to miss that," Hutto City Manager Karen Daly said during a press conference. "We're a very small city with only 90 employees so we all knew each other and we see each other every day."
While the Hutto Police Department grieves the loss of Kelley, the Williamson County Sheriff's Office will be handling its calls.
Williamson is being held in custody at the Williamson County Jail and has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a public servant.
The Texas Rangers will be handling the investigation.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
