A Harris County, Texas corrections officer died after he suffered a medical emergency during a struggle with an inmate early Thursday morning.
Medical examiners ruled the death of Detention Officer Tronoski Jones was caused by heart disease and will not be rule a homicide or accident, according to The Houston Chronicle.
An inmate was being moved around 4 a.m. from one section of the Harris County Jail to another area when he became confrontational and combative. Jones collapsed during the altercation and the medical team at the jail was unsuccessful in saving him.
The Harris County Institute for Forensic Sciences report stated that the 26-year-old officer died of atherosclerotic and hypertensive cardiovascular disease and his death has been ruled to be of "natural causes."
Jones had served with the Harris County Sheriff's Office as a detention officer for close to four years.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
