Missouri State Trooper Killed in Cruiser Crash

A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper was killed in a single-vehicle wreck while on patrol in Audrain County Friday morning.
Trooper James M. Bava's patrol vehicle was involved in the crash on Missouri Route FF, just east of Audrain Road 977, shortly after he reported observed a motorcyclist commit a traffic violation around 8:30 a.m.
The two-year veteran was pronounced dead on the scene after emergency responders arrived.
"Trooper Bava took an oath to serve and protect the people of Missouri," Col. J. Bret Johnson said in a statement. "Today, he made the ultimate sacrifice in carrying out that sacred oath. The entire Patrol family mourns the loss of our brave and dedicated colleague, and we send our prayers and support to Trooper Bava’s family, friends, and those who worked most closely with him."
The incident is currently under investigation and officials said that further information will be provided as it becomes available.
The 25-year-old is survived by his parents, two sisters, a brother, and a half-sister.
Bava is the 31st member of the Missouri Highway Patrol to lose his life in the line of duty.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
