Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Killed in Crash

Sgt. William "Karl" Keesee's patrol vehicle left the road, went over the guardrail and into a creek bed.

A Texas Highway Patrol Sergeant died in a single-vehicle wreck late Thursday night.

Sgt. William "Karl" Keesee was driving southbound on U.S. Highway 84 near Goldthwaite around 11:25 p.m. when his patrol vehicle left the road, went over the guardrail and into a creek bed, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety news release.

"Our state has lost a great man and outstanding peace officer, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this very difficult time," DPS Director Steven McCraw said in a statement. "During his more than 25 years of proudly serving this department and the people of Texas, Sgt. Keesee touched countless lives, and his selfless service and sacrifice will always be remembered."

Keesee joined the department in 1990 and was stationed in Brownwood.

He is survived by his wife and two children.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
