Customs and Border Protection Trainee Dies after Suffering Heat Stroke

Cody Olafson, who was a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer trainee assigned to North Dakota, had been training in Georgia when he suffered a medical emergency during a run.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer trainee died after suffering from heat stroke while training in Georgia earlier this month, according to reports.

Cody Olafson, who had been with the agency for four months and was assigned to the Pembina Port of Entry in North Dakota, was training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Brunswick, CBP Commissioner Chris Magnus stated in a social media post. He was participating in a run when he collapsed and was taken to the emergency room, according to Roseau Community Church in Minnesota, where Olafson was from.

Olafson suffered from heat stroke, and his body temperature reached 105 degrees, the church stated. He was admitted to the intensive care unit, and he passed away May 20, according to the church.

Olafson, 26, is survived by his wife, sister and grandmother.
