Texas Deputy Dies after Crash into Barrier while Responding to Call

Wise County Sheriff's Deputy Lex Love was headed to a crash scene just north of Rhome when he crashed into a concrete barrier as he approached the location.

A Texas deputy died when he crashed while responding to another traffic incident Wednesday.

Wise County Sheriff's Deputy Lex Love was on his way to a crash scene just north of Rhome shortly after 8 p.m., WFAA-TV reports. As he was driving to the location, Love crashed into a concrete barrier.

The collision happened near other deputies, and they rushed to Love's aid. He was unresponsive, and he was rushed to the hospital, where he died.

"Last night, a huge hole was left in Wise County Law Enforcement," a news release from the sheriff's office states. 

Love had been with the sheriff's office since April. He had served with the Decatur Police Department previously, starting in November 2022.
