Tenn. Sheriff's Deputy Found Dead after Crash in Cruiser

When authorities responded to the report of a crash, they discovered Union County Sheriff's Deputy Matthew Kirrman dead inside his patrol car following a crash.

A Tennessee deputy was found dead inside his patrol car following a crash Sunday.

The incident happened shortly after midnight as Union County sheriff's deputies and Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers responded to a crash, the sheriff's office stated in an online release. When they reached the scene, authorities discovered Deputy Matthew Kirrman inside his unit.

Kirrman, a 28-year-old deputy who had previously worked for the Knox County Sheriff's Office, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is looking into the incident, and  Kirrman's body was sent for an autopsy.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Kirrman family, he will be greatly missed," the Union County Sheriff's Office stated.
