Texas Sheriff's Deputy Killed in Collision with Tractor-Trailer

Wood County Sheriff's Deputy Melissa Pollard, who had been with the agency since 2016, was involved in a crash with a tractor-trailer between Quitman and Winnsboro.

A Texas deputy was killed when her cruiser was struck by a tractor-trailer Wednesday.

Wood County Sheriff's Deputy Melissa Pollard was on duty when the collision happened, KYTX-TV reports. She was at an intersection between Winnsboro and Quitman when she was struck.

Pollard was rushed to the hospital, where she died. It's unclear if anyone else was injured in the incident.

The crash is under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Pollard had been a deputy since April 2016. A GoFundMe campaign has been started to help her family.

"Please pray for the Pollard family, Wood County Sheriff's Office family and all other parties involved in this tragedy," a release from the sheriff's office stated.
