SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico --

A 23-year-old man has been arrested at a homeless shelter in New York and charged with killing a police officer in Puerto Rico nearly two years ago.

Puerto Rican police said in a statement Friday that Anthony Rivera Morales has been extradited back to the U.S. island territory.

He was sought in the Sept. 24, 2009 killing of police officer Luis Martinez in the northern coastal city of Manati.

It is unclear if Rivera has an attorney. He is being held on a $1.7 million bond.
