HOUSTON

Parents and students described a fight at a Spring high school as a riot, and it ended with a police officer pepper spraying the crowd.

A representative for the Spring Independent School District said that two students were fighting in an upstairs hallway at Dekaney High School Tuesday afternoon. At that time, about 200 other students were in the main hallway downstairs and refusing to go to class, said the representative.

She said that a police officer dispersed pepper spray into the crowd.

No one was injured, and the representative said the police officer made sure things stayed under control, but students described it differently.

"They were talking about how girls were getting punched and boys were fighting. It was crazy," said Roneisha Webb, a student.

"He just said there was a riot in the school during lunch or something," said one parent.

On Twitter, one student wrote,"Dekaney is "beyond out of control."

Another wrote, "My eyes are burning and I can't stop coughing."

In May, a fight inside the school was recorded on a cell phone. Hundreds of students gathered around as some threw punches, shoved each other and wrestled.

Parents told KPRC Local 2 that they are tired of the fighting.

"My concern is for the kids, my kids here. They need to put more discipline to the school," said Laticia Morenda, a parent.

But students were just as upset.

"There's kids that fight but there are kids that go to class and are doing good things here at Dekaney, too," said Chavonte Wright.

Spring ISD said disciplinary action was being taken against the two students involved in the fight.
