Nov. 20--A disgraced ex-cop accused of smacking and grappling with a hometown news blogger inside a Revere Dunkin' Donuts has a "rage" problem and can't be trusted on the street ahead of his sentencing Dec. 13 for lying to the FBI, a judge has ordered.
U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Jennifer C. Boal on Thursday revoked former Revere patrolman Todd Randall's $10,000 pre-sentencing unsecured bond, explaining the Sept. 12 doughnut shop dustup "constitutes an act of violence, which shows an inability to control his rage."
Security cameras inside the Squire Road coffee shop captured Randall, 41, driving up to Dunkin' Donuts, striding in and smacking Revere blogger Richard Ireton, 54, in the head before the two men grappled with each other, toppling tables.
Randall's wife, Melissa, testified at her husband's detention hearing last week that he was upset with Ireton for mocking her husband's job at a fast-food restaurant, and that Ireton may have taken cheap shots at the couple's 3-year-old daughter, as well.
Randall could face up to five years behind bars for denying he took $200 from an FBI informant last year to throw a criminal case.
Attorneys for Randall and Ireton did not return calls seeking comment yesterday.
