Bail has been set at $20,000 for a man accused of assaulting a police detective in the Kent courthouse after the detective ordered him to stop intimidating witnesses testifying in a drive-by shooting trial.
King County prosecutors have until today to file assault charges against Aydriane Holloway, 23, spokesman Dan Donohoe said.
The incident occurred Monday at the Regional Justice Center. Court documents gave this account:
In the courtroom, Seattle police detective Benjamin Hughey noticed Holloway angrily staring at the victim and a witnesses to the drive-by shooting. He warned him to stop.
During a break, Holloway again was glaring at the group, and one of the men yelled he would not be intimidated. An argument between Holloway and the man broke out, and the detective placed a hand on Holloway's chest and asked him to leave.
Hughey then identified himself as a police officer and again told Holloway to leave, grabbing one of Holloway's hands when he reached behind his back.
"Holloway then reached up with both hands and grabbed a hold of the detective's shirt collar with both hands, turning his hands inward as if to strangle him," court records show. Holloway punched the detective, so Hughey head-butted him. Holloway head-butted him back and bit the detective's left arm.
Court security officers helped get Holloway under control before he was arrested.
Authorities also said Holloway kicked deputy prosecutor Stephen Herschkowitz in the stomach when he tried to help the detective.
Holloway told police he did not initially realize Hughey was a detective. He said he thought he was "some guy in a suit."
