The National Sheriffs' Association is urging its members and others to show support to members of law enforcement agencies in flood-ravaged Colorado.
Although Colorado Sheriffs' Association officials have reported that they are in good shape operationally and don't require aid to keep sheriffs' offices running, the same can't be said for some law enforcement officers in the state.
Some deputies have lost their homes and all of their belongings to the destructive floods that have damaged thousands of homes and killed at least six people.
"It is devastating for these deputies to face the complete loss at home and to continue to work to help others," NSA Executive Director Sheriff Aaron D. Kennard said in a letter to members.
The NSA has activated its Disaster Relief Fund on the organization's website to assist those in need.
Kennard stated in the letter that the NSA Educational Foundation was formed to help sheriffs and their deputies during disasters like the one in Colorado.
"Our funds are limited but with your small donation, we can make a difference in the lives of these deputies," he said.
