DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --
A Volusia County Beach Patrol officer was doing patrols on the beach Saturday when he came across someone with alcohol on the beach, officers said.
Officials said the officer was trying to make an arrest at Sun Splash park, but the violator started to resist with physical force.
Officials said another officer arrived to assist while more and more people started to gather around and resist.
A Beach Patrol official said at least 200 people started to gather around and the situation turned into a melee.

Daytona Beach police were called to assist the two officers that were being battered and the crowd quickly disbursed, officials said.
A total of six people were arrested with charges ranging from obstructing justice, resisting arrest with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer and alcohol violations.
One person in the crowd suffered very minor injuries, but was transported to a local hospital as a precaution.
Both Beach Patrol officers suffered injuries, but were not transported, officials said.
All arrested were taken to the Volusia County branch jail.
