NEW ORLEANS --

A New Orleans police officer has been arrested on accusations of soliciting a prostitute, investigators said Thursday.

Marc Galbreth, 24, was arrested Thursday following a citywide prostitution sting last week. Police said he offered an undercover police officer money in exchange for sex.

The undercover officer posing as a prostitute reported to supervisors that an unknown man, later learned to be Galbreth, flashed NOPD credentials, according to a police news release. Police said the officer saw part of the man's license plate as he drove away, which led investigators to identify Galbreth and charge him.

Last week’s sting involved female NOPD officers working undercover, posing as prostitutes, police said. The sting netted 29 arrests in eight days, police said.

Galbreth was suspended without pay while police officials conduct and investigation.

He had been on the force for almost three years and was assigned to the NOPD's Fifth District.
