TACOMA, Wash. --

Tacoma police are investigating an officer involved shooting early Saturday morning involving Pierce County sheriff's deputies after they stopped a suspected car thief.

Two Pierce county sheriff's deputies got information around 5 a.m. Saturday morning that a suspect wanted on a felony warrant for auto theft was near South 19th street and South Yakima in Tacoma.

According to Tacoma police, the deputies approached the suspect, an exchange and struggle between the three started.

The suspect ran back to the reported stolen truck. The deputies attempted to get the suspect out, breaking out the windows and deploying a taser.

According to Mark Fulgham, spokesman for the Tacoma Police Dept., the suspect then told officers that he was going for his gun. At that point deputies fired into the truck.

It is unknown if one or both deputies fired, how many shots and if a gun was recovered.
