Feb. 01-- An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper is being credited for saving a man's life after an SUV flipped into a pool of water Wednesday along U.S. 169 south of Nowata.
Trooper Scott Shropshire heard dispatchers call out a single-vehicle rollover shortly before 1 p.m. on U.S. 169 near East 290 Road, about eight miles south of Nowata, said OHP Spokesman Lt. George Brown.
Shropshire told dispatchers he was two miles from the scene and responded.
When he arrived, he found the SUV had rolled into a bar ditch and the driver's side was submerged in the water, Brown said.
Shropshire found the driver wedged between the driver's seat and the window pillar, with the vehicle taking on more water. Shropshire entered the vehicle and held the driver's head out of water until fire and rescue crews could arrive to extract the driver, Brown said.
"Trooper Shropshire should be commended on his alertness to the call, quick response and life saving actions," Brown said.
