July 02--Conway police charged a 20-year-old man with attempted murder after officers reported he fired a handgun at them after they arrested another man for public intoxication, according to a police report.
Eron Jordan, 20, of Conway is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center pending a bond hearing on an attempted murder charge, according to jail records.
The charge stemmed from officers being called for medical assistance about 3:30 a.m. Saturday in the area of Live Oak Street and Leonard Avenue, according to a report. Officers found a man, who was intoxicated and trying to leave the area, but the man's nephew had taken the man's keys so he could not drive.
The man, who was not identified in the report, was angry about his keys being taken, so officers tried to get him inside an apartment to go to sleep, according to the report. After numerous attempts, the man walked into the street and became disorderly and upset, so officers arrested him for public intoxication.
The man was handcuffed, put in police car and officers were leaving the scene, gunshots were fired toward one patrol car, according to the report.
The officer called for backup and reported he saw the "muzzle flash of the pistol discharging the rounds" when he looked in his rearview mirror, according to the report. Officers detained several people and later found Jordan inside a bedroom pretending to be sleeping and the gun stuck under a mattress.
Officers identified Jordan as being a person who went into the apartment when they first arrived for the man being intoxicated.
