Aug. 22--A former Pittsburgh police officer was ordered to stand trial today on charges that he offered a fifth woman legal help in exchange for "favors," some of which were sexual in nature.
Adam Skweres, 35, of Lincoln Place, faces charges of official oppression, coercion and other misdemeanor crimes after a woman told police that he offered to get her out of testifying at a court proceeding and then, when she met him at his house, told her to strip and "perform a few favors."
Mr. Skweres, a five-year veteran of the force who worked as a patrol officer for the city's Zone 3 station in Allentown, was fired this spring after four other women told detectives that Mr. Skweres offered to help them in legal matters in exchange for sexual acts.
Phillip DiLucente, the attorney representing Mr. Skweres, said, "We are looking forward to our day in court." He said he plans to raise doubt about this woman's account of events, questioning why she arrived at Mr. Skweres' home at 11 p.m. and why she did not leave the home sooner. The woman told police she worked from 3 to 11 p.m. that day and that Mr. Skweres disassembled her cell phone and scattered the pieces across the house, according to a criminal complaint.
