WELD COUNTY, Colo.
A handful of houses in Mead were evacuated for several hours Tuesday night after a telemarketer threatened to blow up the house of a family who refused to purchase a product, according to our partners at the Greeley Tribune.
The telemarker called a home on Eagle Avenue about 6:30 p.m.
When the homeowner said he was not interested in the product for sale, the telemarketer said there was a bomb in that house and it would blow it up if anyone left, said Tim Schwartz, spokesman for the Weld County Sheriff's Office.
Law enforcement from the Weld County Sheriff's Office, the Colorado State Patrol, Dacono Police, Firestone Police and Mountain View Fire swept the home and several nearby homes, but nothing was found, Schwartz told the newspaper.
The homeowner said the telemarketer had a foreign accent.
"We're guessing the call didn't originate in the U.S.," Schwartz said.
