Authorities say Timothy Canfield killed a man with an arrow fired from a high-powered bow.

A Camden County resident was charged Tuesday with murder after authorities say he killed a man with an arrow fired from a high-powered bow.

Timothy Canfield, 25, who lives with his girlfriend and her family on North Brill Avenue in Berlin, shot one arrow from a compound bow, hitting Kereti Paulsen in the stomach between 10 and 10:45 p.m. Monday, the county Prosecutor's Office and borough police said.

Police found Paulsen, 25, of Cape May Court House, lying in the yard of a home on the street. He died at Virtua Berlin. An autopsy revealed that the arrow pierced a vein in his pelvis.

Shortly before the attack, Paulsen had fought with a man outside the home, authorities said. That man dates Paulsen's former girlfriend, who lives at the address, said Michael Marino, owner of a nearby shop.

After the fight, everyone but Paulsen went inside, authorities said.

Canfield, who was not involved in the fight, then emerged from the house carrying his bow - which uses levers to bend the limbs - and a quiver of arrows, authorities said.

The arrow "probably slipped," said Marino.

Canfield told authorities that he drove to a wooded area in Winslow and disposed of the bow and arrows, according to court records. He is being held in the Camden County Jail.
