FORT WORTH, Texas -- A 20-year-old man killed Sunday was committing a home invasion robbery when he was shot in an exchange of gunfire, police said Monday.
Two other men -- another suspect and the robbery victim -- were also shot, police said.
According to homicide Sgt. Cheryl Johnson, officers dispatched to a shooting in the 6700 block of Glenbrook Lane about 3:40 a.m. Sunday found a 29-year-old man shot in the head. The victim, identified in a police report as Anjoria Atchison, remained hospitalized Monday.
Within minutes of the shooting, officers were notified that Donald Davis and another man, Drayon Demond Perkins, 19, had arrived by private vehicle at Texas Health Southwest Fort Worth hospital with gunshot wounds.
Davis was transferred to the Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital near downtown for surgery but was pronounced dead at 10:15 a.m. Sunday.
Perkins was arrested on a murder warrant and remained hospitalized Monday.
"The investigation revealed that Davis, Perkins and two other suspects went to the location to commit a robbery," Johnson said. "During the robbery, an exchange of gunfire occurred."
Johnson said Atchison and a second person were inside the duplex when the suspects kicked in the door. She said investigators were still sorting out Monday who shot whom during the ensuing shootout.
At the time of the shooting, Davis was free on bail and awaiting trial on charges of aggravated kidnapping and engaging in organized crime. Court records show that Davis failed a urine analysis, prompting a judge to hold his bond insufficient June 17 and issue warrants for his arrest.
Perkins, Tarrant County court records show, was out on bail, awaiting trial on an evading arrest charge. Perkins has previous convictions for theft of property, theft of vehicles and evading arrest, the records say.
