A Tulsa International Airport police officer shot at a vehicle driven by a man who apparently was trying to run over the officer early Tuesday, police said.

The man, Richard Neal Kinison, 38, of Catoosa, was not hit by the gunfire but was arrested after authorities located and stopped his vehicle in the 8500 block of East 51st Street about 1:45 p.m.

Kinison was jailed on a complaint of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, as well as felony warrants on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, knowingly concealing stolen property, driving under the influence of drugs, driving under suspension and failure to carry insurance verification.

Tulsa police said the airport police officer fired at the vehicle as it sped toward him in the area of the Hilton Garden Inn, at 7728 E. Virgin Court near the airport, about 4 a.m.

The pickup became disabled on airport property, and Kinison fled on foot, police said.

Airport operations were not affected as a result of the shooting, spokeswoman Alexis Higgins said.

Hilton Garden Inn manager Grayson Davis said the hotel was not affected aside from the parking lots being closed while authorities completed their investigation.
