Sept. 20, 2016
Michigan’s first shared public safety facility confirms success in keeping critical chain of custody electronically accounted for with the patented Biometric Access Control System (BACS™) Evidence Management System.

Auburn Hills, MI –  September 15, 2016 – LEID Products, LLC., the leader of electronic locker and cabinet storage with biometric asset protection and control, today announced its BACS™ Evidence Management System has proven successful at the Marshall Regional Law Enforcement Center in Marshall, MI. Three separate law enforcement agencies share one electronic evidence locker system at the cooperative facility. The BACS™ Evidence Management System is used to access and track all evidence moving into and out of the property room.

Detectives and patrol officers from the City of Marshall Police Department, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department, and the local Michigan State Police post all share the same evidence area. “The BACS Evidence System is easy to use, provides high security, and simplifies managing large volumes of evidence,” said Post Commander Lt. James R. Coleman, Michigan State Police, Marshall Regional Post #54.
Evidence control must be strictly adhered to; documented chain of custody is critical for successful prosecution of criminal cases in court. The patented BACS™ system allows each agency to maintain detailed electronic documentation tracked back to a biometric fingerprint for authentication.
Redstone Architects, Inc., known nationally for their knowledge and expertise in law enforcement and public safety facilities, designed the new 36,000-square-foot Marshall Regional Law Enforcement Center.  “We are constantly working with our clients to understand their goals and to recommend the most innovative and reliable products that meet those goals,” says Daniel Redstone, president, Redstone Architects. “We knew chain of custody would be a primary concern, as all three agencies share one property room and evidence processing area. LEID Products stood out as the right solution to ensure accountability. With a biometric signature and digital audit trail, all three agencies are assured of the preservation of the chain of custody.”
Based in Auburn Hills, MI, LEID Products’ patented BACS™ systems are used to secure and track critical assets for a wide range of customers.
