Texas Department of Public Safety officials issued a "Blue Alert" Friday concerning the shooting of the police chief in Memphis, Hall County.

The alert was issued for Seth Altman, 33, suspected of shooting Chief Rex Plant of the Memphis Police Department as he attempted to serve a burglary warrant late Thursday. DPS officials informed the Herald that Plant was transported to Lubbock for medical treatment and was in stable condition.

Altman fled the scene, and his whereabouts were unknown as of Friday afternoon. A statewide manhunt is underway to apprehend him. He is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached if spotted in public.

Memphis Independent School District officials canceled Friday's scheduled classes and football game against Vega amid the ongoing search for Altman. Citizens with information on Altman or his whereabouts are encouraged to contact the Hall County Sheriff's Office point-of-contact at 806-259-2636 and/or dial 911 if he is sighted.
