Law enforcement personnel around the country are faced with competing requirements of looking professional and having functional uniforms that don’t impede the physical aspects of their job. Traditionally law enforcement uniforms were made from wool – uncomfortable in hot or wet weather, and required dry cleaning; however, they were professional in appearance. Public safety personnel asked 5.11 Tactical® to develop a uniform that would allow them to move freely, be comfortable in a wide variety of climates, be more economical to maintain, yet still look professional.
The result was the 5.11 Taclite Patrol Duty Uniform (PDU®). Taclite is 5.11 Tactical’s fabric - a lightweight, breathable blend of 65% polyester/35% cotton ripstop fabric. Not only is the uniform convenient, but the durable, economical wash-and-wear fabric is long-term fade resistant and comes out of the dryer ready to wear, saving hundreds of dry cleaning dollars per year.
About the TacLite Patrol Duty Uniform
Pants have flat-front styling and permanent creases with additional features that include an expandable comfort waist and a diamond-gusseted crotch. Shirts feature a mic-cord pass-through, 5.11’s patented Hidden Document Pockets (Class B), pen slots, a button-covered placket with a YKK® zipper, epaulets, bi-swing shoulders underarm vents and adjustable wrist cuffs. Class A pants have hidden zipper side seam pockets, while Class B pants include patent-pending stripeable double-entry cargo pockets, secure covert pockets and flashlight pockets on the back of the leg. TacLite Class A and Class B uniforms are available in short and long sleeves. Women’s uniforms feature a modernized design and flattering construction. 5.11’s Patrol Duty Uniform™ is available in Midnight Navy.
