Oceanside Chronicles - PD: Season 1 Episode 5
To get caught up, you can read:
Max didn’t necessarily consider himself “strong.” As compared to some, he wasn’t. Compared to others, he was. Either way, his physical strength would change; his emotional strength – which his determination was part of – was very strong compared to most. Although those philosophical thoughts weren’t on his mind as he pushed up the 300 pound bench press, the thoughts were on the mind of his lifting partner, Vince.
Vince had let his mind wander. He was supposed to be spotting Max but instead, he was looking around the gym, examining some of the folks working out, and mentally commenting on which ones were actually working versus which ones were there so they could say they’d been to the gym. When Max clanged the bar back onto the rests, the noise brought Vince back to the present moment. He looked down at Max and saw Max looking up at him. “Welcome back,” said Max, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
“Sorry,” said Vince as Max got up. “It’s not like you really needed a spot thought. You could do more than that with ease and we both know it.” Max wiped his face with a towel, just nodding his response as he caught his breath. He’d seen Vince looking around the gym and wondered what had him so distracted. He asked as much when his breathing was back to something near normal.
In answer, Vince said, “I was just looking at the equipment and people. We have better gyms in some of the stations and I was just wondering why we still pay to come here.”
