Louisiana Sheriff's Deputy Saved by Vest

A Ouachita Parish, Louisiana Sheriff's deputy was saved by his ballistic vest after he was shot while responding to a call Sunday night.

Sheriff Jay Russell told reporters that two deputies driving an unmarked cruiser were on patrol when a suspect opened fired at Miller Street and Deloach Street in Monroe around 8 p.m, according to KTVE.

"At the time they came around the corner with a group of people standing on the corner," Russell said. "They shot through our vehicle striking one of our deputies in the back."

The deputy was fortunately wear his vest and the bullet ricocheted off of it before landing in the backseat of his patrol car.

Unaware that the vest had stopped the bullet, the deputy's partner rushed him to the emergency room where he was checked out and released.

Multipule agencies are currently searching for the suspect.
