Officers needed to shatter a window to make a dramatic rescue of a driver trapped inside a burning car that had gone airborne and crashed into two houses and a tree.

Atlanta police officers braved flames to make a dramatic rescue of a man from a burning car that crashed into houses and trees earlier this week.

The accident happened shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday when a vehicle went airborne and slammed into two houses and a tree before catching fire, the Atlanta Police Department stated in a social media post. Flames engulfed the car, and the driver was trapped inside.

When officers arrived at the scene, they tried to open the driver's side door to reach the driver, but the handle wasn't working. The officers then broke the window and pulled the man out to safety.

"The quick thinking, and bravery exhibited by (the officers) saved the occupant from a tragic outcome," the department stated. "The officers had no idea if that fire would result in an explosion which would put their lives in danger, instead they were focused on saving the driver."
