A Phoenix school resource officer disarmed a woman who drew a handgun during a child custody dispute on campus last month.
This week, the Phoenix Police Department released body-camera footage of the Sept. 22 incident during dismissal at Mountain View School. A school resource officer was called to the front officer to help in a domestic dispute between parents, KPNX-TV reports.
The dispute spilled out to the parking lot, and the video shows a child getting into the backseat of a vehicle. "He wanted to get in. He's getting in," the officer tells a woman.
The woman then pulls out a gun from her purse as she's walking. That's when the officer wraps up the woman and grabs the weapon from her.
"When it comes to protecting your children, there is no time to waste when we see a threat," the Phoenix Police Department stated in a social media post. "Thanks to the heroic actions of this #PHXPD officer, a possible shooting at a school was prevented."
The woman, 29, was arrested and charges are pending.
