A Grover Beach police officer spotted a house fire while on patrol Sunday night and alerted residents before they even knew the home was burning, video from the Grover Beach Police Department shows.
The video, posted to X, shows Officer Akai Reyna spotting smoke while patrolling the area near The Pike and Oak Park Boulevard on Sunday. It starts with him reversing his vehicle to find the source of the smoke.
Upon investigation, Reyna found a fire burning in the garage of a home in the area, the post said.
"Officer Reyna sprung into action and immediately attempted to contact the residents inside," the post said.
The video then showed Reyna running from his vehicle and banging on the door of the residence to alert the residents inside the home to the situation as dark smoke pours from the garage.
"It looks like you might have a fire in your garage," an officer tells a man that opens the door before heading into the building an ensuring that the other occupant also safely got outside.
According to the post, the residents were evacuated safely.
The Five Cities Fire Department responded and contained the fire to the garage, according to a separate social media post by the fire department. Two residents were displaced in the incident, according to the post.
The origin of the fire has not yet been determined, Five Cities Fire said.
