A woman in a stolen minivan backed into a cop car and splashed police officers with urine while they tried to arrest her, Oklahoma police say.
An officer with the Edmond Police Department was patrolling the parking lot of a La Quinta hotel, on March 28, when he came across a 2007 Dodge Caravan reported stolen in Nebraska, a police report said.
“The vehicle appeared to be in rough shape and looked like someone might have been living in it,” the officer wrote.
At first, it didn’t seem like there was anybody there, but then he “saw a head pop up” in the back of the van, the report read. He parked his cruiser about 6 inches behind the van, blocking it into the parking space, then radioed that someone was inside.
Body camera video shows the officer ordering the woman to exit the van and telling her that it’s stolen. She says that’s not true and tries to drive away, but hits the cruiser parked behind her, video shows.
She continues to ignore his commands as another officer arrives, then smashes the window with a baton.
A split second after the glass shatters, the woman hurls a Big Gulp cup full of yellow liquid out of the now-open window, splashing the first officer directly in the face, video shows.
“She then grabbed a pointed metal object that resembled a knife and waved in front of her chest in a threatening manner. We advised her to drop it, and she failed to do so,” the report said.
The second officer holsters his sidearm and shoots the woman with a Taser, after which she gets out of the van, bodycam video shows.
“I don’t know what the hell you just threw on me, but that was incredibly stupid,” the first officer says as he places the woman in handcuffs.
Once the heat of the moment died down and backup began to arrive, the officers realized it was urine.
“I was hoping it was Coke,” the second officer says.
Afterward, the officer who took the brunt of the urine spent a good portion of the day at a hospital, getting checked out “due to the exposure of bodily fluids to the face,” the report said.
The woman was booked on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, assault and battery on an officer, throwing human waste at a government employee, and on a felony warrant filed in Nebraska, according to the report.
Edmond is a suburb of Oklahoma City, and a 14-mile drive north from the city’s downtown.
