Body camera footage shows Flagler County sheriff's deputies—joined by firefighters and several bystanders—jumping into a retention pond and pulling a submerged driver to safety following a crash.

Florida deputies, along with firefighters and bystanders, helped pull a man from a car sinking in a retention pond following a crash over the weekend.

The rescue happened Sunday when Flagler County sheriff's deputies and other first responders reached a crash scene at the exit ramp of Interstate 95 and Palm Coast Parkway, the sheriff's office stated in a social media post. According to the sheriff's office, the driver had lost control of his vehicle and plunged into a retention pond near the exit ramp.

With the car upside down and submerged, deputies and firefighters were joined by several bystanders in helping to get the driver out of his car. The rescuers jumped into the water and were able to reach the driver, pulling him to safety. They also checked to see if anyone else was in the vehicle after finding a child's car seat inside.

A deputy's body camera captured footage of the rescue.

CPR was started once the driver was on land, and he was taken to the hospital. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

“Thanks to everyone’s quick action and bravery, the driver was able to be located quickly and life saving measures were immediately given,” Sheriff Rick Staly stated in a release. “We pray the driver makes a full recovery. Thank you to the citizens who also jumped in to help.”
