Michigan police released body camera footage that shows the heroic efforts by officers to save a 2-year-old girl who was being drowned in a bathtub by her mother over the weekend.
In the video from the Saturday incident, Albion police officers are seen kicking down of a residence after receiving a frantic 9-1-1 call from a 15-year-old girl begging for help, according to the Albion Department of Public Safety. Once inside, they quickly made their way to the bathroom and finding a 35-year-old woman holding her daughter under the water in the bathtub.
The officers grab the girl out of the tub and begin performing CPR on her.
“After giving a few quick breaths, the child coughed up water and began breathing on her own,” the department stated in a press release.
Along with being nearly drowned, the girl also had two stab wounds to the chest and throat. A 4-year-old boy also in the home had cuts, and it was believed that he and the girl had possibly ingested cleaning fluid. They were taken to the hospital in stable condition.
The mother—who faces three counts of attempted murder—was taken into custody and brought to the hospital because it was thought she also ingested cleaning fluid. The 15-year-old girl who called police and an 8-year-old child also were found at the house, but they appeared to be uninjured.
“I know it was pretty frantic, and there was crying in the background they were saying and screaming, and she was saying her mom was trying to kill her sisters,” Albion Chief of Public Safety Scott Kipp told WDIV-TV.
