Recently released body camera footage shows a scary incident as an undercover Louisville police officer fatally shoots a masked armed man who tried to carjack an unmarked cruiser.

Body camera was released Thursday of an undercover Kentucky police officer stopping an armed man trying to carjack an unmarked police cruiser earlier this month.

The incident involving Louisivllle Police Det. Matthew Hayden happened at around 1:30 p.m. June 19, WHAS-TV reports. Undercover officers in plain clothes from the department's Fugitive Unit were investigating a wanted man in the Portland neighborhood when Mark Jaggers Jr.—a man unrelated to their surveillance—tried to carjack the unmarked cruiser and tried to carjack Hayden's vehicle.

In the body camera footage released by the Kentucky State Police, which is investigating the incident, Jaggers is seen wearing a black mask and approaching the driver's side of the unmarked vehicle.

As Jaggers opened the car door, he pointed a gun at Hayden, he fired several shots and struck the suspect. Other officers began performing CPR on Jaggers before medics arrived and rushed him to the hospital, where he later died.

"Based on bodycam footage, Mr. Jaggers was armed when he opened the driver's side door of the police vehicle, and when the bullets fired by Officer Hayden struck him," said State Police Capt. Paul Blanton.

Hayden is a 10-year veteran with the department. The shooting is still under investigation.
