Video: Suspect Opens Fire on LAPD Officers in Cruiser

Sept. 6, 2023
A 29-year-old man is charged with attempted murder after he began shooting at LAPD officers in a cruiser, hitting their vehicle before he was wounded by return fire and later arrested by backup units.

Body camera footage was released showing a frantic shootout between LAPD officers and an armed suspect last month.

The incident happened shortly before 12:30 p.m. Aug. 6 as officers from the department's Olympic Division Patrol spotted a suspect—later identified as Jose Delgado-Pinto, 29—standing in traffic and pointing a gun at them, according to an LAPD release. When the officers' cruiser stopped, Diego-Pinto began shooting, and gunfire struck the police vehicle.

Police returned fire, and the suspect was struck, but he fled on foot, ditching his handgun along the way. Backup officers caught up with Delgado-Pinto, who "took a fighting stance" when they confronted him.

Officers deployed a Taser, and Delgado-Pinto was taken into custody. Medics rushed him to the hospital, where he was treated.

Delgado-Pinto was charged with attempted murder in the incident. No officers were injured in the shooting or arrest.
