Video: Driver Can't Escape Seattle PD Hiding in Trash after Stolen Vehicle Chase
An armed man in a stolen car led Seattle police on a vehicle chase earlier this month, plowing through a cluster of occupied tents before unsuccessfully trying to elude officers by hiding in a dumpster.
The incident happened at around 5:40 a.m. May 5 when police spotted a suspect sleeping in a stolen vehicle, the department stated in a news release. While trying to conduct a traffic stop, officers deployed Terminator devices, which flattened three of the vehicle's tires.
In an attempt to flee police, the 30-year-old suspect drove through a grassy area and struck multiple occupied tents. Two people inside the tents were injured when they were struck, and other individuals were able to jump out of the vehicle's path.
The vehicle finally came to a stop because of the damage done to the tires by the Terminator devices, and the suspect tried to hide from officers inside a dumpster. Although the suspect tried to cover himself up with drywall, a police K-9 was able to find him.
"Can I get a cigarette or something?" the suspect is heard asking as officers tell him to surrender with his hands up.
Police found a gun along the stolen vehicle's path, and the suspect is prohibited from carrying a firearm. He was arrested and charged with vehicular assault, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen vehicle.
