Watch Robbery Suspect Jump into River to Try to Escape Fla. Police
Aug. 9, 2024
A robbery suspect tried to elude Florida police by leaping into a river Thursday, but his watery escape was foiled by officers in a department boat.
According to Daytona Beach police, officers responding to a robbery call had spotted a suspect on a bridge. When an officer tries to confront the suspect, the 32-year-old man unexpectedly jumped into the Halifax River.
Once in the water, the suspect began swimming, but he was intercepted by the department's Marine Unit. Officers fished the suspect out of the river, and he was taken into custody.
"His grand escape plan? Let's just say it didn’t hold water," the department stated in a social media post. "Now he's not just under arrest, he's soaking wet too!
"Lesson of the day: Trying to swim away from your problems will only land you in deep water—and a wet jail cell!"
