Video: Naked Man with Knife Sets House on Fire, Lunges at LAPD Officers

Aug. 29, 2024
LAPD officers responded to a home break-in and confronted a naked man armed with a knife who lunged at police after setting the home on fire and barricading himself inside.

Recently released LAPD body camera footage captured a confrontation last month between officers and naked burglary suspect who charged at them twice with a large butcher knife.

Police responded to a call July 29 concerning a home break-in in the city's Beverlywood neighborhood, KABC-TV reports. A man—identified as Lavell Adams—had broken into a woman's home and began barricading himself inside.

While inside, Adams set the house on fire. Security camera footage in the home also showed him grabbing a butcher knife from the sink and setting a cloth on fire over the stove.

Officers entered the home and found Adams huddled naked behind a bedroom nightstand. As they moved toward him, he lunged at them with his knife.

Police fired beanbag rounds, but Adams refused to surrender. Officers pulled back from the house, and a SWAT unit was called in.

During the standoff, Adams came out of the house covered only in a blanket, and officers ordered him to get on the ground. Again, Adams charged at police with his knife, and officers opened fire.

Adams was struck by the gunfire, and he died at the scene.
