Sept. 27, 2024
Body camera footage captured Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies as they rescued a teenage girl trapped in her car by flooding caused by Hurricane Helene.

Florida deputies rescued a teen who was stranded by surging floodwaters from Hurricane Helene late Thursday, one of the many rescue operations by police and law enforcement officers in the state and across much of the south.

The rescue happened just before 11 p.m., and body camera footage captured Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies' efforts, according to the agency. A teenage girl was trapped in her car by the flooding caused by the storm.

Emergency crews rescued hundreds along the coast of the Tampa area because of the storm, KSTU-TV reports. Over 2,450 calls were logged by the sheriff's office over a nearly 16-hour period between Thursday and Friday.
