Watch Ind. Police Officer Save Autistic Boy Floating in Swimming Pool
Newly released body camera footage captured an Indiana police officer saving a missing 3-year-old who was floating in a neighbor's swimming pool last month.
The rescue happened Sept. 22 when Fort Wayne police responded to a call concerning a boy with autism who had gone missing, WPTA-TV reports. While officers searched the home of the boy's family, Officer Evan Myers heard screams coming from a nearby home.
"After I reminded him that he’s autistic and likes water, about like two minutes after that, they ended up finding him," Alex Calvillo, the boy's dad, told WPTA.
Myers sprinted to the neighboring home, and that's when he discovered the boy floating on his back in an above-ground pool. The officer pulled the boy from the pool and carried him home.
"I want to personally thank him deeply for just being able to find my son," said Savannah Ybarra, the boy's mother.
The parents say their son was able to get to the pool because of an open fence that is now closed. They plan to get a fence of their own.
"I definitely want to give (Myers) a huge thanks," said Calvillo. "I can’t describe how grateful I am. Definitely means a lot to us and our family."
