Jan. 6, 2025
When a Burlington police officer tried to apprehend a man wanted on an arrest warrant, the suspect tried to stab the officer with a needle during a struggle.

A wanted man is accused of trying to use a needle to stab a Vermont police officer during a foot chase last month.

The incident happened Dec. 30 when a Burlington police officer on patrol spotted Aaron Montgomery, who was wanted on an arrest warrant, WPTZ-TV reports. When the officer tried to take the suspect into custody, Montgomery attempted to flee on foot.

The officer tackled Montgomery to the ground, and that's when the suspect reached into a pocket to try to pull out a needle and stab the officer. Body camera footage captured the struggle as backup officers helped their colleague apprehend the suspect.

Along with trying to stab an officer with a needle, Montgomery also was accused of trying to kick, bite and spit on police. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, assault on a law enforcement officer and other counts.
