Watch Conn. Trooper Pin Fleeing Pickup Truck During Crash-Filled Chase
- In a pursuit that involved a fleeing driver crashing into Connecticut State Police cruisers, a trooper was finally able to pin the suspect's pickup truck against the shoulder.
A fleeing suspect drove at LAPD officers responding to a burglary, narrowly missing cruisers and kicking off a vehicle and foot chase in February.
The incident happened Feb. 19 when members of LAPD's Wilshire Area Gang Enforcement Detail were on the way to help officers with an enforcement operation concerning a series of burglaries, the Beverly Press and Park Labrea News reports. As they were headed to meet them, they spotted a suspicious park vehicle with two men inside and approached the driver—later identified as Kwentin Monk.
That's when the vehicle sped away, with officers close behind. The pursuit eventually ended up in a cul de sac, and police tried to block the vehicle from escaping.
But Monk turned his vehicle around and gunned it at police, narrowly missing a cruiser. Officers outside their cruisers opened fire, but the vehicle wasn't struck.
A second vehicle chase ensued, and during the pursuit, the passenger got out as the vehicle slowed a bit. Police kept following Monk, who crashed the vehicle.
Monk then fled on foot, but officers were able to catch up with and take him into custody. A handgun and stolen credit and ID cards were recovered from the vehicle.
Monk was charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and felony evading. The vehicle's passenger was not apprehended.
