Kentucky Sheriff's K-9 Killed During Search

A Bell County, Kentucky Sheriff's K-9 was killed in the line while conducting a search Sunday night.

K-9 Kane and his handler, Deputy James Taulbee, were assisting another agency when the dog was struck by an oncoming vehicle, according to a news release.

Kane was pronounced dead on the scene.

"As a department we are devastated," Sheriff Mitch Williams said in a statement. "Officer Kane played a vital role in serving our community and will be sorely missed."

A press conference is schedule for Monday afternoon, where more details are expected to be released.

The incident remains under investigation.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
