Emotional Support Dogs Earn Spot on 2022 NYPD Calendar

They’ve on the job less than a year and they’re already stars.

Jenny and Piper, golden retrievers who are among the NYPD’s first emotional support canines, are featured in the 2022 calendar celebrating animal members of the force.

The calendar typically features canines that sniff for drugs, bombs or chemical weapons. But Jenny and Piper’s job is to detect stress — and then simply be there to provide empathy for an officer involved in a shooting or other traumatic incident.

NYPD leaders believe the pooches, who joined the Employee Assistance Unit in August, are are vital to helping the department deal more effectively with cops in crisis.

Jenny and Piper are features alongside more than a dozen hero dogs and four horses for the 2022 NYPD Canine and Friends calendar.

Many of the animals are named for fallen offices, such as Moore, named after Officer Brian Moore, who was killed by a gunman in Queens in 2015.

The $25 calendar can be purchased through the Police Foundation, a non-profit that funds various police initiatives and purchases, such as bullet-resistant vests.
