Roscommon County sheriff's deputies were searching a snow-covered wooded area for a domestic assault suspect's gun when a K-9 sniffed out the firearm in a hollowed-out stump.

ROSCOMMON TOWNSHIP, MI – This police K-9 showed his chops over the weekend when a suspect attempted to hide a handgun in the woods.

K-9 Jett, of the Roscommon County Sheriff’s Office, found the gun in an unexpected place Friday evening in Roscommon Township, the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.

That evening, sheriff’s deputies were sent to a reported domestic assault, police said. The victim reported that she had been choked by the suspect, who had fled on foot through a wooded area with a handgun.

Road patrol deputies later found the suspect walking away from the scene, police said. He no longer had the gun. Deputies were unable to find the gun and suspected it was hidden under the snow in the wooded area through which the suspect had fled.
