ROSCOMMON TOWNSHIP, MI – This police K-9 showed his chops over the weekend when a suspect attempted to hide a handgun in the woods.
K-9 Jett, of the Roscommon County Sheriff’s Office, found the gun in an unexpected place Friday evening in Roscommon Township, the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.
That evening, sheriff’s deputies were sent to a reported domestic assault, police said. The victim reported that she had been choked by the suspect, who had fled on foot through a wooded area with a handgun.
Road patrol deputies later found the suspect walking away from the scene, police said. He no longer had the gun. Deputies were unable to find the gun and suspected it was hidden under the snow in the wooded area through which the suspect had fled.
K-9 Jett, with his handler Sgt. Darsow, responded to the area and searched for the missing firearm, police said. Jett sniffed out the gun and alerted on a hollowed-out stump. Deputies then found the gun up inside the stump.
“Jett continues to earn his position as a member of this agency,” officials said. “We are so pleased that he keeps bringing Sgt. Darsow to work with him for every shift!”
